I spoke to Angie yesterday and asked what happened. I hated asking her, but I needed to know.
She said that Todd started shallow breathing and calling her name. Angie got close to him and asked if he was having trouble breathing. Todd nodded his head and Angie called the nurses in. The nurses put a suction tube down his throat. Angie said that they were sucking out a bloody mucous from the past five days of breathing through his mouth. The tube then clogged and the nurses removed it. Angie said that they had gotten enough out that you could understand what Todd was saying. When the nurses went to put the tube back in, Todd grabbed it and wouldn't let them proceed. Angie asked Todd to let the nurses continue or he would die. Todd looked at her and said, "It will be ok", Angie asked him again to let the nurses proceed and Todd said again "It will be ok". The nurses then asked what Angie wanted to do. Conflicted, she told them to stop. Todd continued to breath shallowly and call her name... Todd's father came in the room and sat with Todd's head on his chest. Todd's mom came and hugged him. She said, if you need to go, don't stay here for us, we will be ok... and then Todd stopped breathing.
The family was still sitting with him when I arrived.
